Cyprus Flag State Documentation for Merchant Mariners

As a merchant mariner from Cyprus, you are required to obtain certain flag state documentation in order to work onboard ships. These documents include:

  1. Cypriot Seafarer's Identification Document: This is a Cyprus-issued identification document that confirms the eligibility of a seafarer to work onboard Cypriot-flagged ships. It may also be referred to as a Cypriot CDC (Continuous Discharge Certificate) or Cypriot Seafarer's Book

  2. STCW/BST (Basic Safety Training) Certificate: This includes training in Personal Survival Techniques (PST), Elementary First Aid (EFA), Fire Prevention & Fire Fighting (FPFF), and Personal Safety & Social Responsibilities (PSSR). These courses are typically mandatory for all seafarers to ensure their safety and well-being while at sea.

  3. Security Awareness Training: This training is required under the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code and covers topics such as threat assessment, security awareness, and response to security threats. It is mandatory for seafarers to have this training to enhance the security measures onboard ships.

  4. Medical Certificate: A valid medical certificate is required for seafarers to ensure that they are physically and mentally fit to work at sea. The medical certificate should be issued by an authorized medical practitioner and should comply with the requirements set by the Cypriot flag state.

  5. Seafarers with Designated Security Duties (SDSD): This training may be required for seafarers who are assigned designated security duties on board ships, as per the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code. It covers topics related to security responsibilities, emergency procedures, and threat response.

Obtaining and maintaining these flag state documents is essential for Indian merchant mariners to comply with international maritime regulations and ensure safe and secure operations onboard ships.
