Belize Flag State

Belize Flag State Documentation for Merchant Mariners

As a merchant mariner from Belize, you are required to obtain certain flag state documentation in order to work onboard ships. These documents include:

  1. Belize Seafarer's Identification Document: This is a Belize-issued identification document that confirms the eligibility of a seafarer to work onboard Belizean-flagged ships. It may also be referred to as a Belize CDC (Continuous Discharge Certificate) or Belize Seafarer's Book.

  2. STCW/BST (Basic Safety Training) Certificate: This includes training in Personal Survival Techniques (PST), Elementary First Aid (EFA), Fire Prevention & Fire Fighting (FPFF), and Personal Safety & Social Responsibilities (PSSR). These courses are typically mandatory for all seafarers to ensure their safety and well-being while at sea.

  3. Security Awareness Training: This training is required under the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code and covers topics such as threat assessment, security awareness, and response to security threats. It is mandatory for seafarers to have this training to enhance the security measures onboard ships.

  4. Medical Certificate: A valid medical certificate is required for seafarers to ensure that they are physically and mentally fit to work at sea. The medical certificate should be issued by an authorized medical practitioner and should comply with the requirements set by the Belizean flag state.

Note: These are general requirements and additional documentation or training may be required depending on the type of vessel, the rank or position of the seafarer, and other factors. It is crucial to comply with the regulations and requirements of the flag state and ensure that all necessary documentation is obtained and maintained to work legally and safely as a merchant mariner. It is always recommended to verify the latest requirements with the Belizean maritime authorities or a qualified maritime professional to ensure compliance.
